Migraines either improve or disappear in 55-90% of patients and remain
unchanged in 5-30% of patients. Migraine headaches, however, may occur
for the first time or become worse during pregnancy in a minority of patients.
How can migraine be treated during pregnancy?
This depends on the subtype of migraine being treated and the potential
of each medication for causing birth defects in the developing fetus.
In general, migraine headaches can be effectively treated during pregnancy,
but each patient must be considered on an individual basis and medications
must be selected carefully.
